Pimps down, flows up
The release party for Urb magazine's latest issue, Wednesday night at Joe's Pub, featured the lyrical stylings of West Coast diva Medusa, whose song has been jingling like crazy in my head for days. I loved the fact that she had (very femmey) male back-up singers to do her chorus. Hold up girl, hold up!
Also heard from were the pugnacious Jean Grae, whose personality is more Rogue than Phoenix (obscure X-Men reference), Brooklyn-based Wordsworth, and some forgettable crew who made stale homophobic slurs, of all things, in the process of trying to diss George Bush. File that one under "Folks Unclear of the Concept of Appropriate Responses to the Present Political Crisis."
