Publicity Stunt

Canadian hip-hop artist K-Os may have been in a bad mood at SXSW in Austin last month, cutting short a set amidst complaints about his label, but those of us tapping our stateside feet to 2004's Canadian smash "Man I Used to Be" are still hungrily awaiting a proper U.S. tour.

In the meantime, the inappropriately-titled Publicity Stunt DVD will have to tied us over. The disc not only contains all of his videos, including the great pomo-afro-futurist-MJJ-tribute video to "Man I Used to Be," (which you can see in postage-stamp size here) not only is it packed with plenty of behind the scenes footage making Toronto look like the coolest city in North America (there is probably an easter egg or to in there, when I have the chance to find 'em), but the disc also includes a 14:59 minutes of straight-up break-dancing to put most U.S. hip-hop videos to shame. I had it on silent loop all night at my housewarming party.

Publicity Stunt may not be underground, exactly, just secretly Canadian. But it may still be hip hop's best answer to David LaChappelle's dance-ploitation documentary, Rize.
