Took N--o and M--c to Grace Church on Broadway, for the blessing of the animals. Apparently, before we arrived, the priest asked the congregation to duck behind the pews and raise their pets, so that it looked like just dogs were in attendance. Hilarious.
After the blessing, J--h regaled us with stories of grilling on the deck of her boyfriend's boat floating off the south of Manhattan. M--c and I floated off for afternoon yoga at Integral Yoga (om shanti om shanti) and then took in the Yinka Shonibare opening in Chelsea, where S--h threatened to hire me away to Cornell, if only I were willing to exchange Ithaca for New York City. As if.
We exchanged Chelsea for the East Village, ending the night at a fundraiser for New Orlean Jazz musicians at the Nuyorican. It was worth it for Reggie Cabico's priceless impersonating a clueless would-be Angelina Jolie-type singing about Africa: "Don't know much about Africa ... but I did see Whoopi Goldberg in Sarafina."
